As you have read in my previous article are different ways to send fax from computer and also to receive fax on computer.
I assume you want to receive a fax online, through the internet not via your phone line.
I ll resume the way you can receive a fax from your phone: you can use windows fax service or get another free software programs like:
“Fax by modem” or “Faxtastic”
You can send and receive faxes through internet with the help of specialized sites like myfax.com where you ll get a fax number that will be your fax number in order to send or receive faxes.
An other possibility to send your fax without buying a fax machine is to connect you computer to the phone line through a dial-up modem. This means you computer must be first equipped with a modem internal card or an external modem.
You know that your computer has an internal modem card if you can find attached to your PC an RJ11 jack (connector for thelephone line).
In order to send the fax you need first need to scan the papers that you want to send.
It is simple to send a fax from a computer if you are already connected to the phone line and if you have the right fax software installed on your PC.
For example you can use Microsoft Fax Service. This service is not automatically installed in Windows XP.
To install fax services you need to: Open Control Panel, Click Add or remove programs, click Add/Remove Windows Component, select checkbox Fax services, click Next. Fax Services will be installed in couple of moments.
Using fax on Vista or Windows 7 it is easier because the fax software is already installed, all you need to do is to configure your fax modem.
Now on any version of Windows you need to configure the fax.
For Windows XP:
1) Go to: Start->All Programs-> Accessories-> Communications-> Fax then click on Fax Console.
2) In the menu go to: Tools and click on Configure Fax. Fax Configuration Wizard will start in a moment.
3) Click Next. Now you can insert fax information:
- Sender Information: it is required to insert Your Name or Business Name and your Fax Number then click Next

In order to send a fax from your machine you need to complete the following steps:
1) Insert the papers into the fax machine. In general is recommended to insert approximately 30 papers, but other fax machines support up to 50 pages inserted one time.

2) Dial the fax number to witch you want to sent the documents. In the same manner you dial a phone number, meaning prefixes: local, regional or country code if necessary.
3) Press “Fax” button or “Send fax now” ( depending on the fax company ) from the fax machine and wait for the number to be dialed. When the answering fax machine picks up the two machines will start negotiating the connection in order to complete the fax transmission.
While the fax is being sent you’ll see on the display the actual number of successfully transferred pages.
4) If you fax machine is equipped with a display then you ll be able to get the visual confirmation if the fax was sent successfully or not.
You can also configure your equipment to print you a status page of the transmission in order to have all the needed information regarding the fax transmission.
1) Make sure you are trying to send a fax to a fax number not to a phone number.
2) Make sure your line is functional before sending a fax.
3) Make sure you put the documents in the fax machine before dialing the number.
4) Make sure you press “Fax” button after you dial the number.
5) Some business fax machines ( color fax machines ) have in their menu the possibility to set the transmission or reception of colored faxes but you cannot send a color fax to a black & white fax equipment or to receive a color fax for a black & white ( Grey ) fax machine.
6) If someone
When you want to send a fax towards a fax machine, you first need to know the dedicated fax number of the receiver.
Some fax machines work both as fax and as telephone (multifunction). In this case you need to know for sure that the receiver in set in fax mode. What it implies? The person you are sending the fax needs to be informed that you are going to send a fax. You can do that of course by first telephoning that person or by calling the fax number: after he picks up the phone he will hear a sound similar to a beep that informs him that someone is trying to send him a fax. After this, the receiver can switch on fax mode if he wishes.
There are several ways to send a fax:
1) Using your phone and telephonic line (of course) if your telephone is equipped with a fax machine.
2) Using a multifunctional equipment ( like all in one: printer, fax, scanner ) and your telephonic line.
3) Using your Computer, multifunctional equipment and telephonic line.
4) Using you computer and internet connection.
